What is Rugby?
Rugby is a contact sport played by two teams of 15 players on a field 80-yards long and 40-yards wide. Players can tackle one another, charge, pass the ball, and carry it. Each match lasts for 60 minutes and the team that scores the most points wins. The object of the game is to score more points than the opponent team by running and kicking the ball over the crossbar of a vertical goal post called a try line. Players from both teams wear numbered jerseys, and lines marked on the pitch with cones show which players are allowed to move where. The team with the ball can only run with it. They can pass, or take the ball from someone else and run with it, but not kick it. When two players from the same side collide and come to a stop, the referee awards the men a penalty try. A penalty try is worth 3 points, so if a team scores one, it gets 3 points as well. If a team scores 4 or more penalties and the team that didn’t score the penalties is not playing well, the team that didn’t score the penalties gets an automatic penalty kick. A penalty kick is worth 3 points, so if a team scores 3, it gets 3 points as well. If a team scores 5 or more penalty kicks, it can attempt to convert the penalty kicks into tries. If the team scores a try, it gets 7 points.
